Vibe Telecoms

The Future of Simplified Telecommunications

Vibe Telecoms! You heard it here first, if you didn't then I'd love links to whoever or wherever you did so I can share ideas.

The Concept

This is something I have been thinking about for a while and trying to work out in my own mind what it means and what it will look like.

What is Vibe Coding?

Firstly, for those of you who perhaps don't get the reference, a term known as Vibe Coding has come out of the AI industry and refers to developers (and non-developers) who are writing code and building applications using AI tools. It covers a wide base from total non-techies building their first applications without writing any code to highly experienced developers who have just massively increased their output.

Why Telecoms?

My feeling is that the development of AI tools and agents is going to impinge on every industry, and one such as telecoms is a sure fire bet for this. My rationale is that telecoms is tightly aligned to the IT industry, connectivity is of course a major part of the internet and a good proportion of devices using AI also use telecoms networks. The telecoms industry also has a habit of making things complicated, which is why I believe it is a prime contender for being Vibed (careful now!); particularly when the eSIM ecosystem finally sorts itself out and eSIM works its way into every connectable device.

The Vision

Imagine being able to add a sprinkling of connectivity to a mass enterprise deployment without any expertise. Grab a sensor and your preferred development tool, tell it what you need to do, why you are collecting the data and suddenly the device is connected and data is flowing seamlessly into your dashboard, with context, ready to use. Then further verbal requests see the backend policy and management updated to include security, billing and proactive monitoring. Suddenly the whole telecoms eco-system of provisioning, connecting, securing, billing and supporting has been handled seamlessly without an expert in sight. Of course we're a way off this, but this has to be the goal, make it more like WiFi in the way it is consumed by consumers and applications just automate the whole set up. No choosing a SIM vendor, no deciding which APN is needed, which network to use, no vetting core networks, no oss / bss, no radio technology decisions…I think you get the picture.

This is Vibe Telecoms, where telecoms becomes normal and uncomplicated. Built for non-telecom users and built to be used by no telcoers.
