The EBD070 is the 5G RedCap variant of the Calyx family — a reduced-capability 5G HAT+ for IoT applications that want 5G's benefits (low latency, modern protocols, sub-6 spectrum) without paying for full-fledged 5G's throughput or power draw. The IoT-tuned middle ground between the 4G EBD021 and the full 5G EBD050.

Pi runs the sensor processing; 5G RedCap streams the data upstream. Lower power than full 5G makes it viable for battery / solar-powered installations.

What is 5G RedCap?
RedCap (Reduced Capability) is a 5G profile defined in 3GPP Release 17 specifically for IoT use cases. It supports the modern features of 5G (low latency, slicing, modern security) but with lower throughput, power, and complexity than full 5G — sized for IoT devices rather than smartphones.
How is it different from the EBD050?
EBD050 is full 5G — high throughput, more antennas, more power. EBD070 is 5G RedCap — lower throughput, fewer antennas, less power, lower cost. Use EBD050 for video / inference; use EBD070 for sensor data and control traffic.
Why not just use the 4G EBD021?
For some applications, you absolutely should — the EBD021 is cheaper and 4G coverage is universal today. RedCap matters when you want 5G features (e.g. network slicing, latency guarantees, private 5G) without the cost / power of full 5G.
Does it ship with a SIM?
No — hardware only. Pair with any SIMSY SIM pack.
